For the past 4 weeks, you’ve been hearing about our
new Wednesday night spiritual training plan called SpiritFit. On Wednesday, May
5th we launch five group studies chosen to not only
increase the spiritual appetite but the spiritual growth of our church body.
You will see more studies offered in the fall and then in the winter/spring of
’11. These studies are part of an overall plan to guide each person into a
deeper relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Growth includes expanding our understanding of what
it means to be a Christian, our knowledge of Biblical truth and most
importantly, applying daily what we have learned. To help guide our church
body, this fall, we will be offering a confidential spiritual assessment.
The spiritual assessment can be taken at any time and will remain
personal and confidential. It is a tool to will help us think carefully about
our disciplines, examine our daily walk and highlight areas for further focus.
From the assessment, one can then better choose the SpiritFit studies that will
meet his/her needs.
We have so much to look forward to as we grow in
the likeness of Jesus. Yet, we must remember that becoming like Jesus centers
on His work in us, not our work for Him. God desires a change in our hearts.
Without question, God does the revealing, renewing, empowering and recreating.
Our part is to submit, obey and yield to His direction. Therefore as we become
SpiritFit, we are really becoming fit for His purpose. Paul says it so well in
Colossians 1:10-14 and he highlights seven key points regarding God’s purpose
for us.
1. That you submit to God’s direction. (vs.
9)
2. That you obey God and please Him in every way.
(vs.10)
3. That you are fruitful for Him. (vs.10)
4. That you know God intimately. (vs.10)
5. That you experience God’s power. (vs.11)
6. That you have joy and maintain a thankful
attitude. (vs.12)
7. That you remember that He chose to bring you
into His kingdom because He loves you so deeply. (vs. 13-14)
We’re excited to launch SpiritFit and we pray Colossians 1:10-14 over
you. Be blessed as you study and take in His Word this summer. Look for
upcoming studies and the spiritual assessment this fall at www.vlcgv.org.
Love this! God is so awesome!
