Brian came into my office the other day and said he kept checking my website and there was no new blogs in a few days. I told him i had a busy week, but my next one would be all about him. I don't think he believed me at the time, but here we goooo.........
Getting to know my friend & co-worker Brian Alan Steele!
Brian is our Kid’s Pastor at GJFA. Brian, 27 years old, is happily married to Stacey 30 (an older woman), and is a proud father of gorgeous twins, Kaylee & Marshal, both 4 years old. Brian’s b-day is March 20th and has an anniversary coming up on June 14th.
Brian has been on staff at GJFA going on 8 months. Since then, I have found out many odd and peculiar hobbies and habits of this towering 6’5” man. One thing I would never guess is he loves NASCAR and Dale Jr. I am not sure why he likes to watch other grown men make left hand turns for 4-5 hours at a time??
Food: Brian loves to eat, but is very, very (extremely) picky… Brian likes pancakes and waffles but will only eat name brand maple syrup. Since hanging out w/ him I picked up on his favorite sandwiches- bacon, chicken ranch or meatball sub from Subway, but either one of them have to be bathed in 7-8oz of ranch dressing. Sometimes I think he should stop off at the house and shower off the extra ranch hanging off him. (Hahaha) He loves pizza, any brand, but favors Papa Johns, loves Famous Daves, and Moose Jaw buffalo wings and washes it down w/ Coke or Mt. Dew. O yeah, he HATES veggies, the Daniel Fast almost killed him! We had the fam over one time for dinner and I he loaded up his plate w/ meat and bbq sauce- that’s all….meat and bbq sauce.
Brian is a huge sports fan. He loves playing tennis and golf (he plays golf in the front yard as well), basically any sport. He doesn’t like losing; I don’t blame him there… He watches ESPN just about anytime the TV is on. If I ever play trivia and a sports question arises, I would want Brian Alan Steele on my team. Brian’s favorite football team is the Minnesota Vikings, even when they are losing (which is quite often), he is their biggest cheerleader. If you really want to get him a gift, pick him up something Packer-ish. His daughter loves the cheese-heads and Brian is a very supportive father, so he would sport the green and yellow colors for his baby girl!! He is also a big NHL fan and loves the Wild, which for the life of me I can't figure out, why don’t they call them the Wilds, plural, I thought there are more than one Wild on the team? Go figure!
In 2004, Brian won the award for Rookie Manager of the Year with Foot Locker! Check this out: One day he called Stacy when the twins were very little and asked her to come home from work to change a nasty diaper. WOW!! I think Stacy told him to man-up and talked him through it…. First date with Stacy was a movie and then Perkins, she had on her Footlocker uniform, watch out!
Brian has a few driving and traffic qualms. He is really bad at parking in congested areas and downtown Minneapolis; just ask Stacey, she has many horror stories. Brian doesn’t like traffic but misses the big city atmosphere. Get this, he almost did not make it to the honeymoon, traffic and an overheating car in Chicago, you do the math.
Brian loves to watch American Idol but his favorite TV show is The Office (that’s what she said). He is the proud owner of an IPhone, which I think he nicknamed ‘precious’ and sometimes mimics Smiegle from Lord of the Rings…"Precious, precious!" Speaking of cell phones, one of his pet peeves is that he doesn’t like it when people don’t answer their cell phones.
When Brian is not hard at work, he loves to spend his day off in sweats and a t-shirt and reading anything he can get his hand on. Latest book he read, ‘The Shack’- loved it!
Brian’s mentors are Reggie Joiner and Andy Stanley, in fact, I think he has a couple of posters of them in his room and office. Brian and Stacey are soon headed off to the great Orange conference, which is going to be crazy cool!! (I am a bit jealous.)
All kidding aside, Brian and his entire family are an awesome asset to the staff of GJFA and family. He is a great leader! He has the heart and passion to help kid’s find a relationship w/ Christ. Brian is one of the most genuine, authentic and sincere person I have ever met when it comes to Kids Ministry. He is very relevant and does not want to waste his days here on earth. Brian is one person who really wants to make his –dash- count!
Brian Alan Steele, we love you man!!!!
